These days, so many rely on tablets and smartphones for everything from entertainment to communication. It’s sort of become a hub for all things digital. Yet, it still has a lot of limitations.

D-Link is trying to break through some of those barriers with the new DIR-505 SharePort All-In-One Mobile Companion. Designed for all of you tablet and smartphone users, this new dongle can provide instant USB sharing capabilities. In other words, it allows users to access videos, music, and photos from an external hard drive or thumb drive on any iPad, iPhone or Android device.

The SharePort doesn’t work alone, however. You’re also going to need the free D-Link SharePort Mobile app.

Another nifty feature is that the SharePort can also put wireless access in places where there’s an existing network. That makes this a nice little accessory to throw into your travel bag.

Using the SharePort could not be any easier. Plug it into an outlet, wait for the red light to turn green, and insert a thumb drive into the USB port on the side. If you’re looking for that wireless access, the device also has an Ethernet port to plug into.

“SharePort is an all-in-one mobile companion that is ideal for anyone who enjoys playing music, movies or viewing photos from their iPad, iPhone or Android device,”said Daniel Kelley, D-Link’s associate vice president of marketing. “It allows for easy sharing of media to Android and iOS mobile devices.  Plus, SharePort instantly adds storage to your mobile device and can also serve as a portable router/access point, Wi-Fi hotspot and Wi-Fi repeater for instant wireless access from anywhere a network already exists, whether at home or traveling.”

D-Link is selling the SharePort now, at its own online retail store and through retailers such as Amazon. The MSRP is listed at $69.99.
