Need to access your digital goodies on the go? There’s an app for that. Actually, there’s a few apps for that, but D-Link is making that kind of convenience possible with some of its existing routers.

The new mydlink SharePort app can create private cloud storage using any of D-Link’s existing 11AC Wi-Fi routers. Well, not any. It needs to be one with a USB port. That’s where you’ll plug in your storage device of choice. It can be a thumb drive or some other USB storage device. Plug it in and the mydlink SharePort app will allow you to tap into that storage from anywhere in the world via an iPhone, an iPad, or any Android device.

Once connected, the setup can stream movies, video games, photos, music and more.

According to D-Link, the app works with mydlink SharePort-enabled D-Link routers, such as the Wireless AC1750 router (DIR-868L), the Wireless AC1200 router (DIR-860L), the Wireless AC1200 router (DI-850L), and the Wireless AC1000 router (DIR-820L).

“Combined with D-Link’s award-winning 11AC routers with next-generation Wi-Fi speeds, the mydlink SharePort app offers an easy way to view and share content, creating a private and personal cloud that instantly adds storage to your mobile device, giving you more options to control what information you put on your personal cloud versus public cloud,” said Daniel Kelley, vice president of marketing for D-Link Systems, Inc. “Stream your favorite music, play a photo slideshow, or even view documents offline while you’re traveling. And, all files are kept on your own USB hardware, safe at home, limiting access to your content—it’s your data, your hardware and your very own private cloud.”

The free mydlink SharePort app is available now via the iTunes App Store and Google Play. Besides having the proper equipment, this setup also requires that you be registered with the mydlink service. To find out more about the mydlink SharePort app, check out the video below.
