Clare Controls is branching out beyond, well… controls. The company just debuted a pair of Class D amplifiers into its lineup.
The first option is the Clare amp.1640, which packs 16-channels (8 zones) of Class D amplification into a cool-running, 1U rack-mounted chassis. It also has a switched-mode power supply from Bang & Olufsen’s IcePower to deliver 40 watts into 8Ω.
Clare’s amp.7150 is a 7-channel amp, with the IcePower Class D technology and 150 watts into 8Ω. Designed to be used in pairs, the amp.7150 can do 14 channels at 150 watts per channel in two rack spaces.
According to Clare Controls, both models are stable to 4Ω. It’s also important to note that each one was developed in conjunction with AV designer Bill Paul.
Both amps are part of the company’s Select Channel Program, which is exclusive to Clare’s own family of authorized dealers. The company plans to release additional components into the program sometime in the future.
“Our intent is to make these very tactical over-the-counter products available to everyone who needs them—which, based on our first-hand experience, includes every integrator who has ever looked at a customer spec and wished for a component that outperforms the rest of its type or one that fits a certain form factor,” says Brett Price, president of Clare Controls.
Clare Controls will be showing off the amps at next month’s CEDIA Expo in Denver, with plans to ship sometime in the fourth quarter of 2013. Expect the amp.1640 to have an MSRP of $1,500, with the amp.7150 coming in at $999.
