Any time new technology rolls out, there’s bound to be questions. The most important, maybe, why should I buy this?

As someone who used to constantly walk in the room while my wife was watching standard-definition channels and remind her to change to the high-def equivalent, I realize this can be a tough battle. Whether it was going from SD to HD, then also from DVD to Blu-ray, it can take a while for the benefits of the better video technology to sink in with everyone. And now, just when we were getting used to 1080p TVs becoming the norm (not to mention 3D and smart features also becoming the norm), we get 4K—or Ultra High-Definition—resolution thrown at us.

So we’ve got questions. Like what exactly the heck does 4K resolution mean for your TV watching (and purchasing). And what exactly the heck content is there for you to watch on these newfangled sets? Do you need any special wiring? Should you rearrange your theater seating to accommodate the newer, larger TV?

Well, apart from reading our educational and entertaining articles on the subject, we think it would behoove you to go visit a custom electronics pro that will actually be selling these new TVs to further inform you and blow you away with an actual demonstration.

One of the first such 4K or UHD TVs to hit the market is Sony’s 84-inch XBR-84X900 (which, coincidentally, our Grant Clauser will be evaluating today at a custom installation firm’s showroom ... so be on the lookout for his forthcoming review). Sony’s product is interesting because the company is actually shipping it with a pre-loaded server for some native 4K movies for you to watch on it.

As these TVs make their way to dealers, the dealers need to educate you on all of the above questions and more. At least two custom electronics pros—Audio Advice in North Carolina and ListenUp in Colorado—realize the importance of such education and cool demos and are hosting special events around Sony’s XBR TV. Both will also be showcasing Sony’s native 4K projector that was introduced in 2011 (the projector and TV both carry an MSRP of $24,999), so if you attend you are in for a night of video nirvana.

ListenUp is having its event on Tuesday, January 29 at 6 p.m. at its Denver location on South Pearl Street, so you can check out the TV technology in time for the Super Bowl. Audio Advice will be holding its 4K night on Wednesday, February 6, at its Raleigh store on Glenwood Ave., also at 6 p.m.

You can RSVP for the ListenUp event .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and for the Audio Advice event .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). As Sony has also been leading the charge to 4K digital cinema in commercial theaters, both dealers are offering complimentary movie tickets to attendees (may be limited).

If you’re a custom electronics pro, shoot us a message Facebook or Twitter. and let us know about your 4K/Ultra HD events!
