The soundbar is the newest boom in audio, allowing for full surround sound from a single cabinet. The latest is Canton’s Sound Bar CD 90 SB, which features three individually isolated two-way speakers in one slick cabinet.

The idea is that the one speaker can nestle nicely under your flat screen and deliver sound that you might expect from separate left, right and center-channel speakers. The left and right speaker channels each have a 1/2-inch tweeter, a 3-inch woofer, and a 3.9-kHz crossover network. The center section has two of the same woofers, with one tweeter. Canton says it has a frequency response of 80 Hz to 25 kHz.

“We expect the Sound Bar to be an important addition to the Canton line-up,” said Paul Madsen, Canton’s president. “It delivers excellent sound reproduction in an attractive, low-profile housing that is a perfect complement to flat panel displays. It is a perfect match for our popular CD family of speakers, making it simple to expand the system to accommodate any size system and theater environment.”

Available in silver or black, the 39.9-inch CD 90 SB will ship this month for $650.
