Can NimbleTV Truly Deliver TV Everywhere?
The upcoming "TV everywhere" service is scheduled to launch in the next few months.
A company named NimbleTV is getting ready to offer your TV subscription almost anywhere—for a price, of course.
The cloud-based start-up promises to deliver TV and DVR content anywhere in the world, on any type of web-enabled device. They are also offering to sweeten the pot with 10,000 hours of storage and social networking features.
If all goes well, the company plans to launch over the next few months in the U.S. and India, with other countries to follow. The “well” part will depend on whether they can team up with channels and/or service providers.
DISH Network currently offers a similar service, thanks to its 2007 acquisition of Sling Media. However, NimbleTV says that they can do the same thing across any participating provider, with no additional equipment needed.
Customers would sign up for NimbleTV through their current service provider and pay a monthly premium, almost like HBO. Then, everything would be on one bill. Pricing has yet to be announced, however.
“NimbleTV is based on the simplest idea: customers should be able to access the TV they pay for wherever they happen to be,” said Anand Subramanian, CEO of NimbleTV. “Today, the groundbreaking technology behind our service makes ‘TV everywhere’ a reality—with more options, high-quality viewing on any device, watchable from anywhere. Our model is predicated on the belief that providers and content producers should be paid. NimbleTV is a solution that’s both consumer friendly and industry friendly.”
While NimbleTV has yet to announce any service provider partners, they are taking volunteers for a beta service, which begins next week. If you’re interested, sign up on the NimbleTV website.
