Bonus Features Now Stream with VUDU Movies
Bonus features no longer just on disc
One of the bonuses that video discs (Blu-ray and DVD) have over streaming video is the bonus features—those director commentaries, audition footage, behind-the-scenes silliness, etc.
VUDU, which is a premium service already as far as video streaming goes, is now adding bonus content to its movies, well, to Sony movies at least. VUDU’s HDX 1080p video streams are already better, in terms of picture quality, than anything Netflix, Amazon or Blockbuster can deliver. Now VUDU is beginning to include the same movie extras you can find on the disc itself.
The new offerings are called VUDU Extras+. The extras aren’t exactly the same as what you’d get if you bought the disc. VUDU Extras+ include things like deleted scenes, featurettes and trivia, plus some unique bonuses focused on social media, such as “Clip & Share.”
The list of movies that include VUDU Extras+ is short for now—District 9—though it will be expanding later this year with This is the End, After Earth, White House Down, Grown Ups 2, Mortal Instruments, Smurfs 2 and One Direction – This is Us.
A feature called “Enhanced Scene Search” allows viewers to search movie content such as dialogue, videos, photos and extras and enables viewers to instantly jump to favorite scenes, including events inside the film. “Clip & Share” lets viewers select a clip from the film and share with connections on Facebook and Twitter.
If you’re interested in a movie that includes VUDU Extras+, you can preview the bonus content before buying the movie. If you’ve previously purchased a movie that now has VUDU Extras+, you can add those extras for no extra cost.
At the moment, VUDU Extras+ is only on those few Sony movies, but we expect more studios to follow.
By the way, Kaleidescape has had bonus features on its movie system since forever, including the movies downloaded from the Kaleidescape store. Just saying.
