A lot of professionals wind up working together for the finished products we showcase here on Electronic House. There’s a reason why so many architects, interior designers and builders need to work hand in hand with custom electronics professionals: the homeowners demand that their homes look like places where they want to spend their time, above all else.

That’s why it’s important for homeowners to have conversations with pros about blending electronics and design, and why the term “techorating” came into existence.

Heck, we knew techorating was getting big five years ago when TV design personality Doug Wilson got involved with a program from LG Electronics to boost awareness about the trend, back when TLC was still cashing in on home makeovers rather than toddler makeovers.

Since then the Trading Spaces phenomenon has migrated to HGTV, and it’s easy to see that interior design and aesthetics are still high on the priority list for homeowners anytime you watch House Hunters or Property Brothers. And, of course, homeowners still want their electronics toys, too, especially when they make life easier or make for a destination room to watch the big game or movie nights.

With all that in mind, techorating is still vital when it comes to a home’s interior, and one of the CE pros that’s shown us to be among the best at marrying electronics and design over the years, award-winning Audio Video Interiors (AVI) of Middleburg Heights, Ohio, is hosting a Techorating! open-house showcase event for people to learn more about how to get it right.

Along the lines of what Josh Christian of another award-winning installer, DSI Entertainment Systems, recently blogged regarding five ways architects and interior designers need to pay attention, AVI has a full schedule of demos and learning sessions on tap for Thursday, March 14 at its showroom. According to the company, the event will feature things like:

  • Creative, custom-finished speakers
  • LCDs that disappear behind a mirror or are beautifully framed
  • Custom lighting control & fixtures
  • Flat panels artfully displayed as a matrix or mosaic design
  • Outdoor speakers that enhance your landscaping
  • Wall plates that disappear into the decor
  • Elegant control panels

The day-long event runs from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and includes demonstrations as well as courses that can earn credits for industry professionals. AVI invites not only architects and designers to register for the event, but also homeowners, including new movers who are looking to make a splash with renovation. And hey, there will even be milk and cookies in the afternoon and wine and cheese in the evening.

Featured manufacturers will include AMX, B&W, Chief, Erie Energy, iPort, Leon Speakers, Lutron, Planar, Sanus, Seura, Sonance, Stewart Filmscreen and Trufig.
