Are you an AT&T U-verse subscriber and 3D-loving soccer hooligan? Well, you can call off the switch to Comcast, FiOS or DirecTV.

AT&T U-verse announced today that they will be launching ESPN 3D in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup starting this Friday, June 11.

Other 3D sporting events coming soon include the 2010 State Farm Home Run Derby, X Games 16, Winter X Games 15, college basketball and football games, and the 2011 BCS National Championship Game.

“Because of our advanced IP technology, AT&T U-verse customers can be confident that they’ll have access to the latest TV innovations — whether it’s your favorite content across your devices, interactive apps, or 3DTV,” said Dan York, president of content, AT&T. “With ESPN 3D, U-verse TV customers can experience the highly anticipated 2010 FIFA World Cup for the first time ever in exciting 3D, and we’re looking forward to delivering more ESPN 3D coverage throughout the year.”

There’s no new hardware or even potentially crippling firmware upgrades needed for U-verse users to enjoy the 3D action, assuming they have a 3D-capable display and glasses. There is, however, a $10/month “3D Technology Package” subscription requirement necessary, so call ahead if you don’t want to miss the opening match.

Games will be broadcast in either 1080i60 or 720p60 Side-by-Side 3D format which may require you manually engage 3D viewing mode on your display.
