Anthem Statement M1 Amplifier: 1 Kilowatt, 1 Rack Unit

Anthem is certainly making a statement with its newly announced Statement M1 amplifier. That statement seems to be, “More power!”

This Class D amplifier is an AV powerhouse, boasting advanced load monitoring and power factor correction technology that can satisfy demands up to 2,400 watts—even when the unit is connected to a 120V/15A line.

Frequency response is load-independent, meaning that the difference in response between a 2-ohm load and an open circuit is only about 0.1 dB. According to Anthem, there is no change in frequency response between 4 ohms and 8 ohms.

The M1 promises 1,000 watts into 8 ohms and 2,000 into 4 ohms, with total harmonic distortion remaining under 0.1 percent from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. It also has a proprietary load monitoring system, an active power factor correction feature, and a digitally modeled time constant of the circuit interrupter. The latter means that the system won’t trip the second it reaches maximum current. That allows for momentary current surges—the kind that don’t stick around long enough to give off excessive heat.

Another perk is that Anthem has outfitted the fanless M1 with a heat pipe cooling system. That, coupled with the amp’s ability to squeeze into a single rack unit, means that multiple M1s can be stacked on a rack, directly on one another.

“Anthem has a rich history with traditional hi-end amplifier design, and because we do everything in-house, we are able to incorporate that knowledge into the Class D Statement M1,” said Mark Aling, Anthem’s director of marketing. “It’s easy to be fooled because of how slim the M1 is, but we can’t wait for the reaction people get from this powerhouse, both in terms of sound quality and high output.”
