Altec Lansing Goes LIVE with Wi-Fi Speaker
Altec Lansing's latest promises a variety of music almost anywhere in the house.
A lot of companies want to put music in places where you didn’t previously have it. Altec Lansing is the latest to release a Wi-Fi speaker, the LIVE 5000.
This all-in-one speaker can stream music from a personal music library in the house, as well as content from the cloud. Altec Lansing has designed the device to be used as a stand-alone item, or you can group many of the speakers throughout the house for a larger system.
Whether it’s used for one or more rooms, there are also multiple control options. Altec Lansing says that the unit is compatible with iOS portables, as well as Android devices and even the computer. The free Altec Lansing LIVE Controller app will allow users to browse local and online media sources, as well as manage online accounts.
The LIVE 5000 is also social, allowing multiple users to access music queues, control what’s playing and share that information with everyone that’s connected. So dad can start listening to jazz, mom can add a few pop songs to the playlist, and junior can cap it off with something from his budding rap collection.
On the inside, the LIVE 5000 has a tri-amp system, two 3-inch mid-range Kevlar drivers, neodymium soft-dome tweeters, and a long-throw 4-inch subwoofer and passive radiator.
Altec Lansing says that the LIVE 5000 Wi-Fi speaker will start selling this summer for $499.95.
