The homeowners of this theater recently got married in the tropics and wanted to recreate the experience every time they set foot in their media room.
“They enjoyed the Polynesian decorations and styles they experienced on their honeymoon, and asked us to deliver a theater in this theme,” says Robert Kowalski of Berwyn, Ill.-based Automated Lifestyles. “Our challenge was to deliver a room that felt comfortable, with class and without getting too gaudy with Tiki treatments.”
Tiki torches may not have made it to the Polynesian party, but Automated Lifestyles did come up with decor that includes conch shell lighting sconces, custom bamboo treatment, grass wall paper and metal palm leaf additions. With a midnight blue ceiling treatment the homeowners feel like they’re watching movies under the island village’s night sky.
Of course, the A/V and automation are as sweet as the honeymoon, too. A JVC RS2 1080p projector and 106-inch Draper screen provide the killer views, and a Genelec 7.2 surround-sound system serves up beefy audio. Genelec even sent its own expert technician Greg Jenkins to calibrate the speaker system for optimized sound, says Kowalski.
There’s also an Escient Vision Movie Server, Denon AVP 101 Surround Processor, LG Blu-ray player and Creston control. The couple can tap on the Crestron TPS 6X touch screen to access all of the home’s systems, including the front door camera, climate, AV, and lighting for the whole house.
Kowalski notes that Continental Seating even rushed the theater chairs. There’s no doubt the homeowners couldn’t wait to grab a seat and feel like they were outdoors in the tropics again—only this time with their favorite movies too.
