Polk doesn’t seem to be giving up on packing sound into one speaker. The latest addition to their SurroundBar line will soon be the SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater (IHT).
What gives this unit its IHT status is that it comes with a wireless subwoofer, making home theater as easy as adding a TV.
“The market has been calling for a solution as straightforward as this one,” says Mark Suskind, VP of Polk’s product line management. “Until now there have been too many compromises needed to get convincing home theater audio that’s also convenient for the consumer.”
The SurroundBar packs four 2.5-inch treated composite bass-midrange drivers, along with two 13mm polymer dome tweeters that provide a high-frequency response out to 22 KHz. Naturally, it also features Polk’s own SDA Stereo Dimensional Array Technology.
A matching 6.5-inch subwoofer completes the package. One thing about some of these one-piece packages is that you’ll eventually need to add wire clutter into the mix. Not so here. This unit has an integrated wireless transmitter, which means you can place the sub anywhere it sounds good. You will, however, need connections to the stereo output jacks of any TV.
Polk’s IHT is expected to ship this month, for a compact price of $499.
