PlayStation 3 Sales Jump Almost 300%
Looks like Sony has been extra good this year -- especially in the past week.

Sony recently announced PS3 price cuts, as well as a $399 40GB model.
November 28, 2007 | by Rachel Cericola

So we just reported (minutes ago!) that HD DVD was crowing about it’s increase in player sales. Now it seems like Blu-ray is giving them a run for their PR money—by putting the word out that PlayStation 3 players have jumped almost 300 percent.

Game News says that the PlayStation brand in general enjoyed a 178 percent increased over Thanksgiving week. Over the past year, sales are up 245 percent.

The big number, however, is that PS3 sales are up 298 percent since November 2. Much of that success comes from the new $499 price tag (for 80GB), as well as the $399 40GB model. There are also a slew of hot new games, such as “Guitar Hero III” and exclusive titles like “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.”

With the Wii nowhere to be found, the PS3 could get an even bigger boost. Which is on your holiday wish list?

PS3 will destroy the competition in the coming months.  Anyone who opposes will be laid to waste.

Sure seems like everyone is quick to defend their xbox 360, especially now that the ps3 is gaining momentum. Didn’t everyone say give the ps3 a year (like the xbox 360 had when the ps3 was released) and the ps3 will be as big of a hit?! The new game releases are going to skyrocket the ps3 above the 360.

And for everyone trying to say that “there is no proof to the claims on the 3 red lights of death”.... think about how many people you know that have had to return theirs. I know that half of my friends with 360’s have sent their’s back for repair. How many ps3’s do I know that have been returned: 0

Peter,

Sorry to see you’re not up to continuing the debate. You state you only wish to provide information to potential 360 buyers, but it seems pretty clear to me that your actual intention is to dissuade them from purchasing a 360 using an unproven high failure rate to further your cause.

I also don’t think it’s a coincedence that of all places you make these comments in a series of responses to PS3 sales news.

Given that 360 sales have actually increased in spite of all the focused attention on the RRoD issue, I’d say arguments like yours to dissuade potential 360 purchasers haven’t been very effective and it doesn’t appear that will change.

I applaud your effort though. It’s been fun!

Peter,

Your math negates one thing: The $1 billion that MS set aside is “planned” for covering repair and or reimbursement costs associated with the RRoD error. This money is simply budgeted, not already spent.  So, it’s a bit of a stretch to use that amount to calculate a past/current failure rate.

Secondly, I haven’t denied that the RRoD problem exists. I shared my own experience with the issue, I’d say that acknowledges it. I don’t accept the claim that the problem affects 30% or so of the install base, as no one has been able to prove that, so it remains an allegation. If irrefutable proof is revealed that shows differently, I’ll reverse my position. But it’s not my burden to disprove an allegation that has not been proven. The burden is on those making these allegations to prove them.

It’s innocent until proven guility my friend not the other way around.

:“Dave will still refute the problem, and maybe he can elaborate on his theory that we never really landed on the moon (‘Where’s the proof!?’) and that it was all a Hollywood stunt.”

You’re reaching Peter. And it makes you look foolish to make a ridiculous claim that I don’t believe we landed on the moon. Let’s keep this about your claim that the 360’s failure rate is 30% of the install base.

OK the TechDaily website is now fubar’d. Their ad server is laying a div over the content when using Firefox. Oddly it worked from home this morning (under FIrefox on the PC) but now doesn’t under Firefox Mac. Does work in Safari.

Anyway, I apologize for my ‘convenient’ remark since in fact the article may not be displaying properly for you. You would’ve dismissed it anyway, of course.

I really don’t care about your thoughts on the issue. I’m making my points for potential 360 buyers, and I think for any reasonable person I’ve offered enough evidence that there’s a high failure rate with the 360. This is my last comment on this article.
