Summer blockbuster season may be the movie industry’s equivalent of TV’s sweeps months, but for release on disc Hollywood is definitely had its mark on the November and December holiday shopping season.

Last week’s Blu-ray releases included some big hits, and this week’s pretty solid as well, helped by the megahit machine known as Pixar.

Out this week are the studio’s big 2009 hit, Up, along with the first Blu-ray outing for Monsters, Inc., and a gift set re-release of Cars, which if you’ve caught on Blu-ray you know how utterly amazing all of the animated colors look. We’d expect the same from Up and Monsters, Inc., which are offered in 1.78:1 and 1.85:1 aspect ratios, respectively.

If you’re not in the mood for animation, you could look to another couple of Hollywood heavyweights slugging it out in what was a much-anticipated performance together—Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino, whose scenes together highlight Michael Mann’s 1995 thriller Heat. You get the full frame 2.40:1 widescreen treatment and Dolby TrueHD audio.

If music’s your thing, there are a couple of good choices to check with this week featuring a veteran band and some young blood. The Rolling Stones’ Live at the Max IMAX presentation from 1991 makes its way onto Blu-ray, as does The Killers: Live from Royal Albert Hall. Both should sound pretty hot in lossless audio formats.
