They may be used to seeing water on a daily basis in the often-rainy Pacific Northwest, but not the way these homeowners endured it. They had a water pipe break in the master bedroom above the living room, and it ran for two hours, enough to cover the entire first floor.

Thankfully, sometimes these little home disasters can have happy endings. In this case, the water damage wrecked what was a dated audio/video system, so why not factor in a technology upgrade for when the mess clears?

“The home’s existing AV area happened to be right over the pipe which consisted of standard-defintion RPTV and dated audio/video equipment using a standard S-video, composite and RCA interconnects,” says Johann Peters of Washington-based custom electronics pro Charisma Productions. “The owner saw this as the perfect opportunity to make the digital transition and update his AV gear throughout the entire house.”

Charisma tried to avoid an extensive rewire to the undamaged areas, Peters notes, so the installers went with an AMX solution that used the control company’s DAS-M0408 and DAS-KP-4E-G keypads to fuel a multizone audio system.

“This allowed six sources to be accessed throughout the house,” he says. “The eight audio zones were mated with the Klipsch RW-3800 in-wall speakers, which provided excellent sound throughout the home.”

Architectural loudspeakers maintains a stealthy aspect to the technology, which also goes for the equipment. Much is housed in cabinetry surrounding a 65-inch Panasonic plasma in the main viewing room.
