Whether you’re looking for video quality that’s a bit better than YouTube to watch on your computer, or just looking for some TV content that YouTube and other video sites can’t carry, Pioneer is offering an online TV download service that has “a rich library of TV content” available.

Pioneer’s service is called SyncTV and it will require a small subscription fee. Engadget HD is reporting the fee to be $2 to $4 per channel per month, with $2 for downloaded shows outside of your subscription. I’m not sure who’s going to pay those kinds of fees to watch TV on his computer, but it does work on Macs, Windows and Linux PCs and is being offered as a beta program right now.

The company says the video is “home theater quality” as in DVD quality currently, with HD content available where possible. Similarly possible will be Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound for some programming. We know at least one of the channels will be Showtime, according to SyncTV’s press release.

Users can sign up as beta testers on the SyncTV website.
