Reuters reports that Pioneer is postponing the roll-out of its Blu-ray DVD players due to development delays.

The Pioneer Blu-ray DVD player was originally slated to launch this month. It’s now scheduled for release in the fall.

Blu-ray technology vastly improves the display of DVD content on high-definition TVs, but delays have hindered the roll-out of the technology. A rival format, HD DVD, appears to have a slight leg-up in the race to the marketplace.

On the content side, movie studios have already released a variety of titles on both formats and additional films are scheduled to hit shelves throughout 2006.
