Are consumers clamoring for another way to read digital content? They might if it comes in this nifty form factor.
Polymer Vision’s Readius includes an e-reader, which will allow users to read news or email. However, what’s going to get the dollars out of the wallets is that the unit also makes calls. Then when it’s time to hit the books, you can unfold the 5-inch screen. Gimmick or goofy?
CNET says that the idea was first introduced over two years ago. It seems kind of weird that it would surface now with Sony and Amazon readers already on the market.
The overall unit is about the size of a cell phone, when the screen is closed.
There’s no official word on pricing, but the company says it will be comparable with higher-end cell phones. In other words, expect to pay plenty! The Readius is expected to ship later this year.
