Philips is planning to take 3D to the next step—or at least the next room. The company just announced the Wireless HDMI Blu-ray player (model BDP7580), which promises 3D playback, as well as networking features, all with just one power cord.

“Consumers want to be able to stream content, including 3D movies, to their TV and now with this player they can cut the cord and stream wirelessly,” said Todd Richardson, senior VP of sales and marketing for P&F, the exclusive manufacturer and distributor for Philips televisions and home theater systems in the U.S. “Blu-ray is the choice for HD content and adding wireless HDMI frees the consumer from cumbersome cabling and unsightly wires on the wall. The Philips 7580 enabled with Philips MediaConnect and NetTV, gives the added value of being able to go online on your TV, regardless of the brand.”

That MediaConnect feature allows consumers to use this player to wirelessly stream content from the PC to the TV. That includes movies, photos, videos, social networking accounts, and more. NetTV adds in more entertainment options, streaming over 4,500 high-def channels right to the TV. Philips has a host of other content partners as well, adding options for Netflix, Blockbuster, FilmFresh and Pandora into this player.

The BDP7580 connects easily to the TV, via a simple dongle. The player also includes touchscreen controls for easy operation.

Philips says that the BDP7580 will start selling in April. Expect an MSRP of $499.99.
