Philips Goes Green with Eco TV
New 42-inch environmentally-friendly TV takes home CES prize, makes you a better person.
January 10, 2008 | by Rachel Cericola

Can you make your hours of TV watching an environmental cause? That might be a good argument for getting the Philips Eco FlatTV (also known as the 42PFL5603D).

This HD LCD just took home CNET’s ”Best of CES” award in the TV, not just because it’s 42 inches of 1080p fun, but because it sucks up a lot less power than the couch-friendly potato that you have right now.

The Eco TV has the ability to dim the LCD’s backlight, which makes the picture better and saves some power in the process. Even cooler, it’s got a built-in sensor, which measures the room’s ambient lighting to adjust the backlight for optimum efficiency.

On the other hand, if you don’t feel like hugging a tree today, you can turn off all of the features and bask in the glow of electricity.

The 42PFL5603D Eco FlatTV will be available in March for $1,399.

Let us a little permit Nature to take her own way; she better understands her own affairs than we.
