Not everyone wants to wall-mount a TV. However, you probably don’t want to just prop a pricey HDTV up on the floor. That’s exactly what TP Vision and Philips wants you to do with its new DesignLine.
The DesignLine is one seamless, square sheet of glass in gradient black. There’s no stand, no frame and no neck. It’s just a big sheet of glass that leans against the wall. When it’s in standby mode, the frameless glass supposedly displays some type of translucent flow from black opaque to transparent. That all becomes invisible once the TV is in use, though.
Either way, it’s got this appearance like it’s floating—and who doesn’t love that in their TV watching?
DesignLine also has three-sided Ambilight, which boosts that floaty feel and also projects light behind the TV to match the colors on-screen. Other features on this LCD include a dual-core processor with Perfect Pixel HD engine, a 1400Hz Perfect Motion Rate, micro dimming and local contrast, and active 3D technology.
Of course, no new HDTV would be complete without smart TV features. TP Vision doesn’t mention exactly what DesignLine will be streaming, although there are a few sneak peeks in the above picture. To make sure you’re connecting properly (and easily), each TV comes with built-in WiFi and a remote that has pointing capability and a built-in keyboard. The DesignLine series also supports the Philips MyRemote app, Wi-Fi Miracast and the SimplyShare streaming feature.
According to TP Vision, the DesignLine TV series will come in 46- and 55-inch screen sizes. The company will start shipping the line to European and Russian shoppers first, sometime in the second quarter of 2013. [via Gizmag]
