Hopefully you didn’t spend money on September’s Blu-ray release of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Paramount says that they are planning to re-release the summer blockbuster—both in 3D and as a Megatron-sized box set.
The new 4-disc combo pack will include the 3D Blu-ray, a 2D Blu-ray version of the movie, an entire disc of Blu-ray extras, and a combo disc with the standard-def DVD and a Digital Copy. This collection will also include the UltraViolet Digital Copy.
That second Blu-ray disc is a big deal, promising over four hours of extras, including behind-the-scenes footage, featurettes, and other tidbits. This is a nice perk, considering that the previous Blu-ray release had no special features whatsoever. (Find out more about the September release in our Blu-ray peek.)
“This Blu-ray 3D of Dark of the Moon will blow you away. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to get a 3D television, this is it,” said Michael Bay, the film’s director. “For fans who’ve been waiting patiently to bring Dark of the Moon home, this Ultimate Edition release delivers the goods.”
The 7-Disc Limited Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Trilogy (pictured below) will include all three films, more than 10 hours of special features, and a plaque of movie images signed by Bay. It includes a 2-disc version of Transformers, two discs for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and a 3-disc combo Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray for Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
Both sets will hit shelves and websites starting January 31, 2012. The Transformers: Dark of the Moon 3D-capable combo pack will have an MSRP of $39.99. The box set is listed at $99.99.
According to Paramount, Transformers: Dark of the Moon raked in $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office and is currently ranked as the fourth biggest movie of all time at the global box office.
