Chicago resident Jeff Rezzuto is the lucky winner of the 2008 Electronic House Sweepstakes.
Yes, people do actually win these things.
Rezzuto so far has only received the 50-inch Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ85OU Plasma HDTV ($2,999 retail). And he couldn’t be happier.
The 1080p display arrived just in time for the Super Bowl, so Rezzuto moved his sad little 32-inch Sony display “and just stuck the [Viera] TV on a table.”
The verdict? “It’s absolutely incredible,” he says. “People were talking about the TV instead of the game.”
For the long term, Rezzuto isn’t sure exactly where he’ll put the TV, and whether he’ll wall-mount the unit or place it on a stand. “It all depends on where I’m going to put it in the room,” he says.
The unit does have a swivel “so I could turn the TV to best fit the room,” he says.
Rezzuto is not your average CE tweaker, but the Viera has him imagining the possibilities: “You can run your computer on it, connect your camera, put in a [storage] card ….”
He says, “I’m just a regular user but this thing … it’s dangerous!”
The Viera has one PC input and a built-in card slot. It also boasts an Ethernet port for delivering Panasonic’s Viera Cast Internet services, including TV-friendly YouTube, digital photos, weather news, stocks and more – no connected PC required.
The Viera Cast menu updates itself on the fly, so more options will appear on Rezzuto’s new TV over the coming months and years.
It’s the gift that will keep on giving.
What will Rezzuto do with his prizes? Will he hire a pro to do the install or go it alone? Will he do anything “dangerous” with the Web-enabled TV set? Will his friends use him for his cool entertainment setup?
Stay tuned for the continuing Sweepstakes saga, including pictures from the work in progress.
