Panasonic Debuts 1080p HD LCD Projector
You don't have to go to Hollywood; the PT-AE1000U provides a true theater experience at home.
November 09, 2006 | by Rachel Cericola

Most of the major electronics releases come in January, but if we had something like Panasonic’s PT-AE1000U, we’d have a hard time spilling the beans too.

This could be the greatest thing to ever come out of Panasonic—at least from the projector side. The 1080p unit has a brightness of 1,100 lumens and a contrast ratio of 11,000:1 (that’s not a typo!).

With projectors like these, I can’t imagine that box office receipts will be skyrocketing anytime soon—unless you enjoy Milk Duds sticking to the bottom of your shoes. You can’t put a price on an experience like that!

With the ability to broadcast a 100-inch image from about five feet away, this is a product that the true home theater geek can get behind. But can you imagine playing games with this thing? My eyes are already twitching with enthusiasm.

  • $5,999
  • Available this month
  • 1080p native resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels)
  • 16:9 aspect ratio
  • 11,000:1 contrast ratio
  • Uses high-def LCD panels
  • Cinema Color Management color corrects approximately 1,070,000,000 colors
