Just weeks after OPPO debuted its PM-1 planar magnetic headphones, the company has another new release. Hoping you’ll want to pump up the sound of that new headphone set, the company just announced the HA-1 headphone amplifier.

OPPO says that the HA-1 builds off of the circuit design used in the company’s BDP-95 and BDP-105 Blu-ray players. It’s got a slick analog audio section combined with the latest in digital audio.

That analog audio section has a fully balanced design that emphasizes on keeping the audio signal in the analog domain once it leaves the DAC. It’s got a toroidal power transformer, linear power regulators and filters with custom made capacitors, and Class A power amplification.

OPPO has also designed this unit with high-resolution digital audio playback in mind. It’s got the same ESS 9018 Sabre Reference DAC that’s used in OPPO’s Blu-ray players and can support PCM audio up to 384 kHz 32-bit resolution and DSD audio up to 256x the CD sample rate.

Besides using the HA-1 as a headphone amp, OPPO says it can double as an asynchronous USB DAC, a stereo preamplifier, a digital audio dock for mobile devices, and a Bluetooth audio transport.

The HA-1 comes packed with plenty connectivity options, including coaxial, optical, balanced AES/EBU inputs and options for 4-pin balanced XLR or the traditional quarter-inch headphone jack, as well as line level analog inputs and outputs with both RCA and balanced XLR sockets.

Other features include Bluetooth with the aptX codec, an aluminum chassis, and support for Apple’s iPod, iPhone and iPad for use as an external DAC. It also comes with an IR remote or users can opt for OPPO’s free smartphone app.

OPPO is selling the HA-1 now in black, with a silver model coming in June. It can be purchased on the company’s website, at a retail price of $1,199.
