i’ve been keeping an eye out for the LED lights. they last longer and use very little energy compared to standard bulbs. however, i have to say the price is still a little daunting, especially in applications where the bulb is not used much - like the outdoor flood mentioned in the previous comment (thinkgeek.com). i would really like a good looking (soft light) bulb for recessed lighting applications, since those are what’s on the most in our house. i would be willing to pay $20-30 a piece if i knew they would earn that money back within a few years. thoughts?
Hi Barney,
I’ll be blogging more about LED lights next week. I just met someone at the CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association) show, and he’s marketing LED lighting for Color Kinetics, which was just bought by light bulb giant Philips. Expect a big push in LED replacement bulbs for the home.
In the meantime, check out http://theledlight.com/led-light-bulbs.html. There may be some bulbs in your price range.

You should try one of these LED light bulbs. 18 led reading light, 36 led room light, or 60 led spot light. An 18 led reading light could cost less than a dollar a year to run.
