Four Tips for Networking Purchases
Networking products are tricky, but columnist Toni Kistner has four ways to keep buyer's remorse at bay.
Home Networking I’ve been writing about home networks since before they existed. Back in 1998—when IT folks were stringing cables to share a single 56kbit per second analog modem line—I was promoted to networking and communications editor at PC Magazine. At the news my colleagues hung their heads. “You won’t last,” they said. “That stuff is hard.” Well, PC networking is hard. Packets, protocols, layers, transports. Toni -This is the first article I’ve read produced by Electronic House that elucidates clearly why emotion should not be used when making a buying decision. Patience truly is a virtue in these instances.

No offense but I thought the article was first written by a man :) Clearly it takes a grounded person to write about what so many find intoxicating (ie gadgets...) and those are the people that throw out reason completely.

Most of the articles produced by E-House are praising upcoming technologies that haven’t lasted any test of time:

Apple TV, Apple I-Phone, Blu-Ray vs HD DVD, HDMI, Cablecard, Draft 802.11n products.......

I and all the other sane readers will be looking forward to your future reports :)

I’m looking forward to your articles since I still have a very tough time remembering how my own network is set up.
The information everyone provides is always different than how your own devices describe them.
A good idea would be to provide a glossary that not only describes the word but gives any other manufacturers/vendors term for the same thing.
They may not like standards but we need to have them.
