Onkyo just announced a trio of new components that boast an ‘80s flair. However, don’t expect these devices to come wrapped in a pair of legwarmers. Instead, they just combine the classic stereo style with the technology needed for today’s discerning A/V buff.
The three new models are the P-3000R pre-amplifier, M-5000R power amplifier, and C-7000R CD player. Each one includes Onkyo’s own Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry (DIDRC), which boasts the ability to counteract unwanted high-frequency interference. That translates into reduced distortion in the super high-frequency range, promising playback that’s closer to the original source.
Welcoming both analog and digital sources, the P-3000R pre-amp features a host of other connectivity options, including AES/EBU digital and a USB port for PC audio. Other features include a 32-bit Burr-Brown DAC for each stereo channel, PLL (phase locked loop) technology and bi-amping capabilities. Onkyo lists the MSRP on the P-3000R pre-amp as $1,699.
Taking a cue from Onkyo’s M-405, the M-5000R power amplifier has some series style, plastering analog power meters right on the front. Inside, the M-5000R has AWRAT amplification, which includes DIDRC technology combined with a low NFB design, closed ground-loop circuits, and high instantaneous-current capability. Designed to drive even the most-demanding loudspeakers, this $2,499 amp has an 8-ohm FTC rating of 80 watts and a dynamic power rating of over 450 watts into 1 ohm. Other features include three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry, a Quad Push-Pull amplification design, twin toroidal transformers and four 27,000 µF capacitors, and a high-grade XLR input.
Last, but certainly not least, is the C-7000R CD player. For minimal signal interference, this unit has a thermally regulated clock with a crystal oscillator. Featuring analog-only or digital-only modes, the C-7000R has separate analog and digital circuitry. Also notable is the player’s silent disc mechanism, die-cast aluminum tray, and AES/EBU digital outputs. Onkyo has priced the C-7000R CD player at $1,499.
All three models are expected to be available through Onkyo dealers sometime this month.
