Onkyo Enters HD DVD World with Player Due Out in Fall

Onkyo is headed into the high-definition DVD fray with the launch of its first HD DVD player this fall.

The companyt’s DV-HD805 will take advantage of high-bit-rate audio streaming via HDMI version 1.3a, ideally partnering with Onkyo’s A/V receiver lineup that supports the latest lossless surround-sound formats DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD.

The DV-HD805 can support different frame rates, including playback at 24 frames persecond, the native frame rate of most HD original source content, for the smoothest video reproduction. Video will be 1080p, with Deep Color technology to improve color tones and gradation, Onkyo says.

Onkyo’s product will also include an Ethernet port for HD DVD’s web-enabled network connectivity that allows for bonus materials and features that lets viewers download, and upload, content.
