Smart locks have been steadily increasing in popularity over the years. The idea is so simple: Use a smartphone to lock and unlock the door, whether you’re in front of the door or across the country. Now, a new smart lock company has emerged, with a name that’s as simple as that concept.
Okidokeys just introduced a line of smart locks and keys at the 2014 CES in Las Vegas.
Like most smart locks, Okidokeys allow you to control locks from almost anywhere, through various smart devices. However, these aren’t just for the front door. Using smartphones and smart tags, users can even unlock garage doors and electronic gates.
Okidokeys include support for Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE), Near Field Communication (NFC), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and Crypto Acoustic Credential (CAC). No Wi-Fi network is needed. Of course, Okidokeys products also have the option of using traditional keys.
Each Okidokeys is also pretty easy to install, using an existing ANSI Grade 1 and Grade 2 deadbolt and keys. Once installed, users can lock and unlock doors using a Bluetooth 4.0-enabled smartphone and the free Okidokeys app for iOS and Android devices. Rules and other settings can also be enabled.
No smartphone? No problem. A credit-card-sized RFID card is also an option, in case you burn through your smartphone’s battery.
“With Okidokeys, we’ve modernized the old-fashioned house key,” said Pascal Metivier, founder and CEO of parent company OpenWays. “Think about how antiquated it is to call a locksmith when you’re locked out of your home or to continue hiding keys under the doormat. Consumers no longer need to practice these archaic ways of life. Okidokeys offers consumers a modern lock and key solution with unparalleled security, reliability, ease of use and quality design.”
Pre-orders for Okidokeys will start this month, with the product shipping in the spring. Several colors will be available, as well as a customizable version that’s ready to paint. Okidokeys are priced at $179, but the company is planning to offer a special pre-order price for purchases made before January 31, 2014.
