NuVo Announces 500GB Music Server
The NV-M3-500 more than triples its predecessor, with options to play that massive music collection all over the house.
April 15, 2008 | by Rachel Cericola

A mere 160GB of music storage is laughable in some audiophile circles. For those of you that want the greatest hits collection, NuVo has something for you in its NV-M3 music server.

For those that want the option to hear the one-hit wonders, the guilty pleasures, and pretty much everything else in their music collections, the company has just unleashed the NV-M3-500—a 500GB music server.

“Digital music collections are growing exponentially, along with consumers’ desire to enjoy high-bit-rate and even lossless audio files,” said David Rodarte, president and chief operating officer of NuVo Technologies. “Highly compressed audio files are fine for portable players, but homeowners now recognize that for home theater and whole-home entertainment, only files with higher bit rates offer the sound quality they want. With the NV-M3-500, homeowners no longer need to make sonic compromises with their digital music. Every digital track in their collections can both sound great and be easily accessible in any room of the house through our new music server and our Grand Concerto and Essentia E6G whole-home audio systems.”

Now granted… it’s not the biggest server in the A/V bunch. However, we like NuVo, and like to see that they are thinking big—or at least bigger.

The unit is nice and thin, making it easy to add to your A/V rack. The company estimates that the NV-M3-500 can hold about 830 uncompressed CDs. You can also opt to stuff that thing silly, via MP3 or WMA files.

Other features include full Digital Rights Management (DRM) compliance, three source outputs, NuVoNet Communication and Windows Media Player music management. The server can also sync to a home PC to retrieve music files and allow playback of DRM music. Add the NuVo Grand Concerto, and you’ve got a killer whole-home audio system.

The NV-M3-500 will ship in June for $2,999. The 160 GB NV-M3 is available now for $2,299.
