NuVision recently announced they are shipping the 42-, 47-, and 52-inch versions of their latest line of Lucidium Series 1080p Deep Black LCD HDTVs. The rest of the line-up – which includes 22-, 26-, 32-, 37-, and the whopping 65-inch displays – will ship at a later date.

This new Lucidium Series incorporates a few selling-point technologies that some might find attractive. First, there’s the Digital Switching Deep Black, or DSDB. This technology adjusts the LCD backlighting according to what is being displayed. The effect is a deeper field with a purported contrast ratio of up to 15,000:1. Deep Black is the new black, apparently.

The second attraction is each Lucidium display’s Deep Color Spectrum (DCS) ability. DCS “widens the color gamut” of the display to achieve greater brilliance and lifelike colors. We’re told that we’ll see colors we may never have seen before when displaying familiar content. DCS is incorporated in the Lucidium’s NuColor x.v. feature, which enables the set to recreate over 1.07 billion unique colors. Two rear HDMI 1.3 inputs and a side input add a measure of functionality, and the NuVision Intelligent Digital Conversion (NiDO) up-converts standard def signals to full HD resolution.
