Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 allow gamers to feed their need for other entertainment. Now it looks as though Nintendo will soon follow suit, adding video to its offering.

While you were opening presents yesterday, Nintendo was announcing that the Wii will soon have video features. Apparently, some will be original programming, which will be available through the web. Gizmodo has a very scary image to match the good news, saying that some of it will be free and some will not.

The service is a joint effort with advertising firm Dentsu. “Nintendo and Dentsu shall use the environment surrounding the Wii so that living rooms with Wii-ready TVs would become more of a fun area for communication among families and friends,” the firms said in a statement.

We’re not entirely sure what that means, but the service is scheduled to launch in Japan next year. Expect it to spread to other markets at some point.
