The battle of gaming consoles may still boil down to personal preferences, but overall it appears that Nintendo’s Wii is the one that’s most preferred.

Nintendo’s popular console reached its 30 millionth sale, the company announced this week, to build on its claim as the fastest-selling console in gaming history—it got to 30 million in 45 months, 15 months quicker than Sony’s PlayStation 2 achieved the feat.

It doesn’t hurt that the Wii seems to have bridged the gaming generational gap better than most. Between the sports, fitness games and others, using the motion controller is pretty simple for kids, parents and grandparents to pick up. Plus who doesn’t love virtual bowling?

The Wii still carries a $199 price tag, and the black version can blend in well with the rest of your A/V gear in an equipment rack or media cabinet. And you can stream your Netflix Watch Instantly movies through the system.

If you’re looking for 3D gaming, however, better stick with the PlayStation 3—Wii won’t be going there anytime soon. However, it does have Metroid: Other M being released at the end of this month, so fans of just about any classic Nintendo system can rejoice in the latest for that killer game franchise.

Keep an eye out for Donkey Kong Country Returns also this month, and NBA Jam in October.
