Start your special warm-up exercises. Nintendo has announced release dates for two highly anticipated products: WiiWare and the Wii Fit.
WiiWare, Nintendo’s new downloadable game service, will launch on May 12. Wii Fit, the upcoming title for Wii that will spawn the Wii Balance Board peripheral, will follow on May 19.
WiiWare will allow game developers of all sizes to make their content available for download. That could mean a ton of titles for Wii owners, with prices set lower than the arm-and-leg you’re used to paying at retail. Upcoming titles will include “Final Fantasy Crystal Chroniciles: My Life as a King,” as well as games from up-and-coming developers like Frontier’s adventure “LostWinds” and a new episodic game series from Telltale.
The Wii Fit uses a weight-and-motion-sensing balance board to engage players of all skill sets in 40 different activities, which includes yoga, push-ups, and other exercises.
“We are hopeful that they will appreciate our offerings of WiiWare, Wii Fit and Super Smash Bros. Brawl [also just announced], which represent a trio that will continue to attract new players to the world of video games,” says Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. Something tells me that they won’t have to worry about that.
