If you’re like me, you probably have a stack of catalogs waiting on any given day—waiting to go into the recycle bin. According to The Wall Street Journal, more than 20 billion catalogs were mailed in 2010 in the U.S. alone. That’s about 200 catalogs per household per year.
So you’re not alone, but you can be. Padopolis just launched a new app called Catalog Spree, which puts some of those catalogs on the iPad. This way, retailers can still deliver the message without all of the waste. Also, consumers can still get that “flipping through” experience, in full color.
“Much like the iBooks experience, people will have their favorite catalogs at their fingertips when using Catalog Spree,” said Catalog Spree co-founder and CEO Joaquín Ruiz. “Shoppers will also have the chance to discover great new stores that offer exactly what people are looking for, all from one app on their iPad, Catalog Spree.”
However, it doesn’t just provide a paperless way to browse. You can actually shop straight from the catalog, with the swipe of a finger.
“Catalogs are the single largest revenue driver for retailers, bringing in over $100 billion a year. Catalogs take the lion’s share of many marketing budgets and are one of the three largest publishing industries in the United States—just as big as books and magazines,” said Rick Binger, co-founder of Catalog Spree and catalog industry veteran. “Mobile shopping is a relatively new and quickly evolving trend, which introduces new solutions for retailers. Catalog Spree provides an easy way for retailers to extend the traditionally strong channels of e-commerce and catalog shopping to mobile.”
Current catalogs available through the app include Artful Home, Birthday Express, Serena & Lily, Dwell Studio, and more. The Catalog Spree is now available for free, via the iTunes store.
