It’s been a big month for Netgear as it tries to take over your home’s coaxial cable network. That’s not a bad thing though, because it’s using the coax to bridge your home entertainment system to your network.

The latest piece of gear is the company’s MoCA Coax-Ethernet Adapter Kit (MCAB1001), which carries an MSRP of $229 but can be found on Netgear’s website for $189.

The solution employs the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) initiative to connect your PC network to your home entertainment system using your coaxial cable outlets.

Netgear says the adapter will help zip your data at up to 270 Mbps transfer speeds, so you’ll have uninterrupted HD video, gaming and high-speed networking with your connected Blu-ray player, Apple TV, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Slingbox, DVR or other device. You can use it wired or with a wireless router.

All you have to do is plug the adapter into your existing coax cable outlet and start connecting the devices to it. It includes a LAN-10/100 Mbps Ethernet RJ45 port, an F-type MoCA 1.0 port, and an F-type out to the TV tuner. The kit’s package includes two of the MoCA Coax-Ethernet adapters, two coax cables, two Ethernet cables, two power adapters, an installation guide and setup CD.

Netgear says the data encryption ensures privacy and security for your network. Just remember, it’ll work with cable but it’s not compatible with satellite so don’t try hacking the DirecTV wiring.
