Netflix To Stop Selling DVDs
You only have one more month to buy up the company's overstock.
Netflix DVD Sales

Netflix will soon stop selling used DVDs.

If you were slowly building a DVD collection based on Netflix’s sloppy seconds, you’d better stock up. The company just announced that it would soon stop selling used DVDs.

CNET says it’s all part of the master plan to just rent—either via mail or over the web.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience for those of you who regularly purchase DVDs at Netflix, but we’re excited about being able to spend the extra time focusing on continually improving our core rental business for you,” the company said in a blog post.

Instead of offering them direct, it looks like Netflix will sell the overstock to a wholesaler, who will then sell them. In other words, they are adding a middleman.

The company just announced the addition of its Watch Instantly feature for Mac subscribers. They are also working with multiple partners on hardware that will stream Netflix selections.

I’ve never bought a DVD from Netflix, but I have scarfed up a few at Blockbuster. It didn’t seem to change their business model at all. Netflix seems to be keeping plenty busy, though; apparently this was more of a hassle then it was worth.

Have you ever bought DVDs from Netflix?

If so, keeping buying while you can. Netflix will stop selling used DVDs at the end of this month.
