If you own the PlayStation 3, your Netflix experience is about to get better than everyone else you know.

Starting Monday, October 18, you can toss that streaming disc. The PlayStation Blog says that PS3 users will be able to stream Netflix goodness without it. As an added bonus, they will also get some of that streaming content in 1080i, while everyone else is still oohing and aahing over 720p.

Netflix also just announced plans to add Dolby 5.1-channel surround sound to streamed TV shows and movies—also a PS3 exclusive, at least to start. The PS3 will be the first consumer device to support 5.1-channel surround sound on movies streamed from Netflix. That sound will be Dolby Digital Plus, and should be added to other streaming devices in the (near?) future.

The PlayStation Blog says that Netflix will also debut a new and improved interface, which boasts better browsing, search and startup times.
