Netflix will add $1 to your monthly subscription for Blu-ray rentals

Do you mind paying a dollar more per month for unlimited high-definition movie access?

Looks like Netflix has officially given the word to subscribers that in November it will begin adding the $1 charge to their accounts (plus “applicable taxes”) to add unlimited Blu-ray rental access, notes one CNET blogger who received his letter of notice.

Rumors began about the extra charge back in April, and by August we knew more about how much premium would be placed on Blu-ray rentals.

Considering we already typically pay a little more to purchase Blu-rays than standard DVD, and to get high-def cable versus standard cable, I’d say the extra $12 bucks a year isn’t too bad, especially for those who have the time to rent a lot of movies.

Netflix isn’t totally flush with Blu-ray discs just yet—it notes that it has about 500 titles—but we’re guessing that the count will quickly rise judging from its other content. There are 100,000 DVD titles, and is steadily adding to its streaming video rental selection.

How’s your Blu-ray rental service from Netflix been? Let us know in comments below.
