Netflix is looking for an experienced engineer to work on its gaming platforms team.
Why should you care? Well, this job posting has fueled the speculation that Netflix is considering bringing the streaming video service it uses with the Xbox to Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii.
Here’s a snapshot of the posting:
We are looking for a hands-on leader and innovator. We seek deep experience developing and testing media rich applications on current generation gaming consoles. Candidates will be technical, strong leaders, and execution focused. Expect to help build a small technology team to rapidly prototype and iterate on a variety of platforms.
The pluralization of “platform” in the job post is the dead giveaway. And let’s not forget news of the recent Netflix survey in which subscribers were asked if they’d pay extra to stream video to their PS3s.
Netflix has enjoyed plenty of success with its streaming feature on the Xbox 360. The company claims more than 1 million Xbox owners have used the streaming service in the past 6 months.

Interested, but curious as to the image quality of Wii streaming. I’m currently set up for 408p but wonder how big of a buffer is contained in G1 Wii’s and can we expand buffer capability via SD, etc…?

this sounds like it might just be the boost that netflix may need to possibly add more hd. which would be great. because obviously the xbox isn’t enough. hopefully by adding a ps3 to the mix it’ll add more selections and hopefully alot more hd.
