You’ve heard of bicycles built for two. How about an outdoor entertainment paradise built for two—two families, that is.

This spacious New Orleans-style expanse incorporates the back porch lounging area of a large family home (see “1” in photo below); the upstairs veranda of the guest annex; a front porch dining and relaxing area for the mother’s conjoined smaller home (see “3” in photo); a pool/fountain/spa combo with sunning and play deck for the kids and dogs; an outdoor fireplace and seating area for intimate gatherings; and an entertainer’s dream kitchen that would make the most avid tailgater green with envy (see “2” in photo). And it’s all built in an inclusive courtyard setting, so privacy—and disturbing the neighbors with loud music—is not an issue.

For thorough audio coverage, there are several sets of large speakers remotely controlled by programming that allows for independent or synchronized control, according to Thomas Marino of Louisiana-based custom electronics pro Advanced Technologies, which decked out the area and home.

Each of the two families has a Universal Remote Control MX3000 touchscreen that allows them the capability of playing the music of their choice: with two pages, each, of selected favorite satellite channels and radio stations programmed in their individualized touchscreens.

Three dedicated satellite receivers, located in various wings of the houses, for audio purposes, correspond to three areas (denoted in the photo) which also have independent speaker and component systems. On any of the hand held touchscreens, anyone can turn these outdoor systems on, and have them all synchronized by clicking the “Sync Sat” or “Sync Radio” button (see photo). The next screen that pops up is the favorite channels page. Additional music can be be played over any or all the systems via a special FM Radio frequency dedicated solely to the residence through use of an FM transmitter built by Advanced Technologies so the residents can use other sources of recorded music such as MP3 players.

“And, of course, when they’re not in the mood for music they can view live or recorded events can be viewed on a large plasma TV,” says Marino. “The set hangs on a swing arm mount located inside the kitchen cabinetry, wired to receivers below, and safe from the elements.”

Those on deck, in various seating areas, and in the pool can enjoy the entertainment at this everyday outdoor party.
