Digeo’s Moxi HD DVR and Moxi Mate

Since you typically don’t do all of your TV watching on just one set in the home, Digeo just made your viewing habits a little easier. The company released its summer update, which includes the Moxi Mate digital media player that can tap into media stored on the main Moxi HD DVR.

For the initial release you won’t be able to schedule recordings from the Mate, but it sits on your home network and feeds video to a secondary room, such as a bedroom or kitchen.

Digeo says the little set-top box features virtually silent operation, and it allows you to pull up recordings from what’s stored on your Moxi HD DVR. It also means you can tap into other networked features of the Moxi system, such as Rhapsody music, Flickr photos and PlayOn software that lets you view web streams from Hulu and Netflix, for example.

You can also access Digeo’s MoxiNet software for web browsing, and summon other media on your network because the Moxi’s a DLNA certified device (the summer update bumped up to DLNA 1.5 certification).

The company also noted a few other goodies, such as support for switched digital video that’s offered on some cable providers; a new grid guide view that better replicates viewing guides many are used to (the company still likes its own menu system, but says it had lots of requests for the grid so it obliged); and support for more external hard drives so you can record more than the 500 GB worth of storage the system includes.

To that end, Digeo notes that Moxi’s relationship with LaCie means support for LaCie’s mammoth 4big Quadra 6-terabyte drive—that’ll give you up to 1,000 hours of high-def recordings, albeit at a $1,399 price.

As for Moxi’s pricing, it’s still $799, and the new Mate runs $399. However, the company is offering a discount bundle to give you both for $999. Plus, existing Moxi owners can grab the Mate for $199.
