Motorola’s DCT6200 set-top high-definition box may soon need no wires to send uncompressed HD to the TV.

Fewer wires, but still high-definition quality imagery—Motorola appears to have taken us another step in the right direction toward this end in trying to establish a particular wireless HD connectivity standard.

Motorola, through strategic venture capital arm Motorola Ventures, today announced that it has made an equity investment in Amimon Inc., an emerging leader in semiconductor technology for wireless transmission of high-definition (HD) video with its wireless high-definition interface (WHDI) technology. Terms of the investment were not disclosed.

“We believe that Amimon’s WHDI technology is setting a new standard in wireless HDTV connectivity which nicely aligns with Motorola’s connected home strategy,” said Reese Schroeder, managing director, Motorola Ventures. “Our investment reflects our belief that Amimon’s solution is well positioned to offer a high quality wireless uncompressed HDTV link between video sources such as digital set-top and high-definition TVs.”

Amimon’s wireless high-definition interface (WHDI) technology allows for wireless transmission of uncompressed high-definition video streams in the 5-GHz unlicensed band. WHDI enables applications such as wireless flat-panel TVs, wireless projectors, wireless HDMI and wireless VGA repeaters.

“Motorola and Amimon share a common vision of facilitating connectivity between consumer electronics devices,” said Dr. Yoav Nissan-Cohen, chairman and CEO, Amimon. “The investment from Motorola will fund our plan to set WHDI as a new industry standard for connecting high-definition video sources to displays wirelessly.”

This is interesting - http://broadcastengineering.com/infrastructure/amimom-uncompressed-hdtv-20051230/

But wait - that was in 05 waiting for the 06 CES

Now, if you go to CES’s webpage and search - you won’t find anything for Amimom, WHDI in the search box. You can find Amimom’s exhibitor listing:
https://myces2007.bdmetrics.com/Portal/ViewCompany.aspx?id=1823766

But that’s about it.

BTW - on your link it listed another thread about the “leaders” in WHDI - Amimom isn’t even listed on that page.

Hey Arlen - why don’t you get a rep from Amimom to reply to this thread. Oh wait - you’re just here to push useless tripe.....

Serg,

Amimon is a chip-set company I image it will be up to their partners and customers (Sanyo and Motorola) to determine the price points and release dates of the end-user products.

I read this article from a link on their site which sums it up nicely.

Hey Cole - Why don’t you show me EXACTLY - with links, contact info, release dates, price points etc. about when and if this product will ever make it out of vaporware. I don’t work for a competitor - I am just a frustrated consumer that is tired of all the BS and no followthrough CE companies and their marketing departments release onto magazines which in turn are here to “inform” us of products that will never make it and they have in turn no intention on following up. Wireless HD is not getting closer. 802.n rev 2 is the closest standard that will get us there and it is in the final revision stages. No wireless HD till atleast 09. I think your the idiot....

Serg,

Based on you idiotic comment: You obviously work for a competitor to Amimon and you didn’t take the time to read Amimon website where there is plenty of information.
