Over the years there has become less and less of a sacrifice in sound quality when choosing architectural speakers over floorstanding speakers for your entertainment system. In-walls and in-ceiling models offer superb audio these days, to go with the unobtrusive aesthetics that people love of them.

Technology like that used by Monitor Audio in its latest in-wall offerings firmly establishes them as ideal architectural models. The company’s W280LCR and W380LCR in-wall speakers feature a flexible three-way design incorporating Monitor Audio’s inverted dual concentric (IDC) driver module that allows for pivoting of the tweeter/midrange up to 18 degrees.

This will let your speaker placement be a little more forgiving, for those who don’t have much flexibility in where to build in the in-wall speakers, and should give a more generous listening sweet spot.

The IDC driver module also let Monitor Audio reduce the size of the speakers, which in turn can yield installation in either the vertical or horizontal position without any modification needed for the wall stud bay, the company says.

Monitor Audio’s W380LCR model also features its rigid surface technology (RST) cone profile in the tweeter/midrange and bass drivers (the W280LCR has it for just the tweeter/midrange) for increased stiffness, greater dynamic range and low distortion.

Both speakers are now available, with MSRPs of $400 each for the W280LCR and $600 each for the W380LCR.
