The audio world is going wireless—all of it. Of course, there are still plenty of hardwired products, but it’s becoming a big priority for even the most high-end manufacturers to offer products that allow you to cut the cord. Monitor Audio is the latest, announcing its new Airstream 300 speaker.

The Airstream S300 is a stylish tabletop speaker that can crank 150 watts of audio goodness using a variety of sources. It works with plenty of portables or you can just tap into your existing Wi-Fi network to stream the likes of web-based services, such as iTunes, Last.FM and even YouTube.

If Wi-Fi isn’t an option, the Airstream S300 has an AirPlay Direct feature for streaming content from a PC, smartphone or tablet.

Another bonus is that the Airstream S300 has Monitor Audio quality. The two-way audio system packs in four DSP-controlled amplifiers driving four C-CAM speakers, configured in stereo pairs of bass units and tweeters. Signal paths are digital to the S300’s 24-bit DACs, which boast a purer analog waveform.

Other features include Monitor Audio’s APC (Automatic Position Correction) with an integrated microphone, an auxiliary stereo jack for hooking to a TV, and a USB input.

Available with white or charcoal gray finishes, the Airstream S300 works on a shelf or tabletop. It can even be wall-mounted.

Monitor Audio is selling the Airstream S300 now, priced at $499.
