Mitsubishi Unveils Diamond Series Projectors
Mitsubishi has added a Diamond Series projector line, featuring the flagship HC7000U and the HC6500U models at $4k and $3k, respectively.
September 03, 2008 | by Arlen Schweiger

Mitsubishi is polishing up its Diamond collection, and these sparkly models are ready to make your home theater a real gem.

The Diamond Series moniker—which had been reserved for Mitsubishi’s high-performance TVs—now has two high-performance 3LCD projectors, the new flagship 1080p HC7000U and the HC6500U. Projector Central has even more specs, including pricing—$3,995 for the flagship model; $2,995 for the HC6500U.

The HC7000U features a whopping 70,000:1 contrast ratio, while the HC6500U has a not-to-be-chuckled-at 15,000:1. There’s plenty of brightness to go with those rich black levels too, as the HC7000U has 1000 lumens, and the HC6500U has 1200.

If you want to go the 2.35:1 superwide aspect ratio theater route, it looks like Mitsubishi’s more than willing to help out on that road as well. Both Diamond Series projectors include Anamorphic Lens modes 1 and 2, so you can keep the lens in place and easily switch back and forth between 2.35 and 16:9 (1.78 for many movies and broadcast high-def).

Other highlights include 5,000 hours of lamp life in low mode, Hollywood Quality Video processing, and two-year warranty on parts and labor plus one year for the lamp. Yup, forget the diamond ring—sounds like we’d be plenty happy with a Diamond Series projector.
