Home Theater of Long Island has been a hot spot for home technology in the New York metro area for five years now.

The company made a splash with Electronic House last year as a winner in our annual Home of the Year Awards contest after they outfitted a dream home with Savant’s Apple-based control system, 50—count’em, 50—zones of audio and 1,200 loads of lighting, just to name a few items.

We asked HTOLI managing partners Kaloma Smith, Nick Tzortzatos and Anthony Chrisostomo to tell us what homeowners can expect when they go through the front doors of the company’s recently renovated design center.

In the main lobby area upon entering the store, homeowners can see lighting control in action right away with a WELCOME button on the Lutron system. That’ll trigger the lights to go on in the entire design center, before they are treated to more dramatic lighting effects and shade controls later.

Then you get to play with iPads! As you enter a family room setup, pick up the Apple device and use it as a controller to pick music from a Meridian Sooloos server and to hit lighting controls via a Savant app—all while enjoying the views from a Runco 50-inch plasma.

Continue on the tour to find unique display solutions from Vutec, whose ArtScreen hides a big wall screen, and Seura, whose TV can hide from view when not in use.

If you think those are cool, wait until you step into the living room vignette and catch an eyeful of Panasonic’s whopping 103-inch plasma, not to mention fine sounds from B&W’s Diamond Series speakers.
