Maxell is probably best known for those ads with the “blown away guy.” Now they are looking to blow away consumers on another level.

The new 5.1 Digital Sound Bar probably could have used a peppier name, but frankly, if it performs well, we could not care less what the name is. The idea is nothing new, packing multiple speakers into one unit that can be mounted to look like an art deco frame for your flat-screen TV. However, Maxell is throwing in the magic of a subwoofer to complete the 5.1 package.

The Sound Bar mounts, but the subwoofer does not. That might seem sort of messy, but if the sub does not mount, it sort of kills the “no hiding wires” selling point, doesn’t it?

Connecting up to seven devices, the system also features built-in Dolby Digital and DTS Decoder that can be remote-controlled from anywhere in a room.

Two styles will be available: wood and aluminum composite; the package will run $599.
